YTTC — Youth Table Tennis Club in Vancouver · Ages 8–13 Small Ball.
Big Fun

Youth Table Tennis Club — Free weekly sessions in Vancouver for kids ages 8–13.

Who We Are

About Us

We are a volunteer-run youth table tennis club for kids ages 8–13 on Vancouver's West Side. No tryouts, no cuts — just paddles, ping, and a whole lot of pong.

Our Story

The club started in 2025 with one wobbly table in a community-centre hallway and six kids who kept losing the ball under the vending machine. Today we run two sessions a week across four tables and host neighbourhood tournaments across Vancouver. The vending machine is still undefeated.

What We Stand For

  • Sportsmanship before scoreboards
  • Every kid gets table time — no bench warmers
  • Loud cheering, kind words, firm handshakes
  • Fun first, forehand second
  • Small ball. Big fun. Always.

Why Table Tennis for Vancouver Kids?

Table tennis is one of the best sports for kids ages 8–13: it builds focus, sharpens hand-eye coordination, develops quick reflexes, and burns real energy in a short session. It's social (every kid gets table time, no one rides the bench), low-cost, and runs year-round indoors — perfect for Vancouver's rainy months. For families looking for an after-school activity that's a healthy alternative to screens, kids table tennis in Vancouver is hard to beat.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions Vancouver parents and kids ask most often before signing up for youth table tennis.

How much does YTTC cost?

All YTTC sessions are completely free for members. Paddles and balls are provided — just bring sneakers and a water bottle. The club is volunteer-run and sponsored by the Open Minds Foundation.

What ages can join YTTC?

Kids ages 8 to 13. We do not run tryouts and there are no cuts — whether your child has never picked up a paddle or is tournament-ready, there is a group that fits.

Where do YTTC sessions happen in Vancouver?

Sessions alternate between Dunbar Community Centre (4747 Dunbar Street) and Old Barn Community Centre (6308 Thunderbird Blvd), both on Vancouver's West Side. Easy transit and parking at both locations.

When are sessions?

Sessions run twice a week during the school year and a lighter summer schedule. See the Schedule section for current times. Drop-ins are welcome for members.

Does my child need table tennis experience?

No. Brand-new players are paired with patient coaches and given plenty of table time. Tournament-ready kids get pushed harder with footwork drills, multi-ball training, and match play.

What should my child bring to a session?

Athletic clothes, non-marking sneakers, and a water bottle. We supply the paddles, balls, and all training gear.

Is YTTC safe for kids?

Yes. All coaches are screened volunteers. Sessions run with at least one coach per eight kids and we follow Vancouver Board of Parks safety procedures at both host community centres.

How do I sign up?

Fill out the Join Us form on this page and a coach will reply by email within two days. You can also email ericyangran@gmail.com directly.

Can parents stay and watch sessions?

Yes — parents are welcome to stay, watch from the side, and meet other YTTC families. Many parents stay on-site for the duration of the session.

What happens during a typical session?

A typical session is 60 to 90 minutes: warm-up drills, focused table time, mini-games, and a friendly round-robin. Coaches rotate through groups so every kid gets equal play.

Does YTTC host tournaments?

Yes — neighbourhood tournaments run several times a year and all members can enter. Tournament travel is sponsored by the Open Minds Foundation.

Where in Vancouver is YTTC closest to?

YTTC is on the West Side of Vancouver, with sessions in Dunbar and at UBC. Families from Dunbar, Kitsilano, Point Grey, South Granville, Kerrisdale, MacKenzie Heights, and the UBC endowment lands are typically a short drive or bike ride away.
